He obtained his general medical degree from Semmelweis University, and first specialized in pathology and cytology. He then joined the gastroenterology department at the MÁV Hospital, where he obtained further board certifications in internal medicine and gastroenterology. For many years, he was also a member of the renowned academic workshop led by Professor Ákos Pap. From the beginning of his career, his professional interests have focused on gastroenterological ultrasound diagnostics.
Later, he led the sub-intensive care unit of the operative endoscopy department at the then-national gastroenterology center for several years. He participated in several preclinical and clinical developments, including studies on the effects of natural prebiotic dietary supplements—particularly regarding the absorption and metabolism of iron, calcium, and trace elements. He also gained experience in international clinical trials.
For many years, the focus of his scientific interest has been the gut microbiome and its relationship with obesity, insulin resistance, fatty liver disease and its inflammatory complications, as well as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). He is a member of the Hungarian Society of Gastroenterology and a regular speaker in the ultrasound section at its annual congress. He and his colleagues were the first in Hungary to compare the sensitivity of precision-targeted liver ultrasound and FibroScan in diagnosing fatty liver and NASH syndrome associated with a damaged microbiome.
Since 2002, he has been a staff member of the Budai Irgalmasrendi Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy, and is currently the Chief Physician and Head of the Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic and Endoscopy Unit.
